To make matters even worse, I then had to listen to an incredibly rude member of staff telling me that this is “the way it is everywhere” and that apparently paying €5 to dry yourself after a shower is completely normal.

The toilet flush was broken; since I was only staying for one night, I didn't make an issue of it and took care of my needs elsewhere, but if you are planning to stay for a few days, this would be a major problem.
